My family research has centered around the Anderson County area of Tennessee, which is located about 25 miles north of Knoxville.
John & Mary Disney settled in the area in the late 1700's and were primarily farmers. As more and more Disney's populated the area, coal mining became an important occupation for some.

Surnames that contributed to my ancestry, both paternal and maternal sides include:

Leach, Stansberry, Reed, Chase, Tharp, Walton, Johnson, Gilliam, Bowen, Peters, Kidwell, Sitzler, May, Webster

East Tennessee, Virginia and ultimately Maryland comprise the majority of the areas settled by my ancestors.
