DODD FAMILY - In 1658, Portobacco became the governmental seat of Charles County. It is now a "ghost town", slightly removed from the new site in La Plata. The earliest civil records Charles County, Maryland include numerous references to Richard Dodd and his family. A surprisingly complete amount of detail survives in the governmental records. His son John Dodd moved to the Northern Neck of Virginia in about 1695.
