COGAN/DEANE Family: In September 1651, after his loss at the Battle of Worcester, Charles II had a narrow escape from Cromwell's troops at Coaxden Hall. There he received asylum in the old manor house in the parish of Chardstock, Dorsetshire. The home was then in the possession of a gentleman named Richard Cogan, a member of a well known Chard Family. Mr. Cogan appears to have been a near kinsman of Eleanor Cogan, the wife of Walter Deane of Taunton, Mass.
