LOFTIS-WATSON-NEWTON FAMILY - Virgil Miller Newton Jr., was the great-grandson of James Powell Loftis and Artemicia Leak, and grandson of James Watson and Hester Loftis. He became the award-winning managing editor of the Tampa Tribune, in Tampa Florida. He was an alumnus of the University of Florida, and the recipient of many prestigious awards. In February 1964, he received the "National Freedom Award," along with astronaut John Glenn.
