HOWELL - James Howell was born in Uniontown, Bourbon Co., Kansas on 13 November 1869. He was the son of James Van Howell II and Melvina M. Williams. He married Harriet "Hattie" White, the daughter of Enoch White and Josephine Husted on 23 July 1891. He was a prosperous farmer in Modesto, California, where he lived until his death on 26 May 1926. James and Hattie were the parents of 6 children, of whom Florence Irene married Clifford Dodd in 1911.
