RAGLAND FAMILY - Sam Ragland was the only son of Ephraim Thomas Ragland and Amanda Sloan. Although his parents were Tennesseans, Sam lived the early part of his life in Barren and Edmonson Counties, Kentucky. He followed his sister, Sallie Amanda (Ragland) Dodd to California after 1890, and dedicated his life to prospecting for gold. Sam Ragland never married, and died in 1948.
