1848 - Bounty Land Warrant of Flora Sloan et al.
On 9 June 1848 Flora Ann Sloan, the widow of Cyrus Sharpe Sloan, received Bounty Land Warrant #17895 under the Military Act of 1847, concerning the Mexican War. This document establishes the names of the 7 surviving children of Cyrus and Flora Sloan: 1)Amanda A. J. Sloan (m. Ephraim T. Ragland); 2) Jason C. Sloan (m. Minerva Henard); 3)Emely M. Sloan; 4)Milton J. Sloan; 5. John W. Sloan; 6) Cyrus A.(Allen)Sloan (m. Martha Williams); 7)Samuel H. Sloan (m. Marilda Lovel). Amanda, Jason, Cyrus and Samuel were residents of Barren Co., Kentucky. The original document resides in the National Archives in Washington DC. This document provided a solution to one of the most difficult genealogical puzzles encountered to this date. The ability to present this new data brings with it a great deal of satisfaction.
