| The name Domaschenz is Wendish or Sorbian. These are a Slavic people who lived in Germany close to the Polish border. The active part of the name is "Domasch" which apparently translates to "Thomas". As part of the major Lutheran migration a number of people with this surname migrated to South Australia in the middle of last century. The name appears to be quite uncommon. There are a number of people with this surname in Australia but only a handfull appear in the German telephone directory. I am particularly interested in the descendents of those who came to Australia but also in the name generally. I am also interested in tracing the family back in Germany (pre 1857). I would be interested in hearing from anyone about the family and would be happy to share information. |
