AMES BLYTHE MORTON:
Morton, James Blythe

Was one of the youngest Lieutenants in the Revolutionary War. 4th
regiment of the Continental Army Prince Edward County VA

James moved his family from Virginia to Nashville, Tennessee, in
1800 and on to Rutherford County, Tennessee, in 1803.

Morton, James (VA). Ensign 4th Virginia, 28th Sept 1776; 2nd
Lieutenant, 20th October, 1777; Regimental Quartermaster, 1st
April1 1778; 1st Lieutenant , 9th September, 1778 ; taken prisoner
at Charleston, 12th May, 1780, and was in prison to 1st May 1783.

Virginia Soldiers of 1776 p1204 - Lieut. James Morton. Entered
service 1st Jan., 1776 Fourth Contl. VA Regiment. and is still in
actual service, 1782. Warrant 74 for 2666-2/3 acres issued to him.
Recorded Book 1, page 14, VA. L.OFF.
DAR # 298388; TN DAR 1933 Yearbook p.93

Will located Rutherford County Court House: recorded Nov 21 1808
Record Book 2 Page 64. Slaves and land were left to his six
children.

ATHARINE WELLS:
MORTON Catharine Wells will recorded in Rutherford County, TN,
Record Book 7,pp 338340. Catherine Morton leaves to my grandaughter
Mary Ann Anderson; one negro girl named Julia. To my grandaughter
Eliabeth V. Gooch, one negro girl anme Tiney. To my grandson John
Morton, one negro boy named Wilson. To my grandaughter Martha M.
Morton, $200, which sum I wish to be put in interest until she
becomes of age or marries.

.....knowing that negroes hired out belonging to minor heirs are
liable to be abused and otherwise become less valuable in
consequence of being indiscriminately hired out to the highest
bidder, therefore, my will and desire that legacies given to the
above named children be put in the care of Thomas S. Anthoney as
Curator to be taken care of by him and to be always ready the same
to the legatees agreeable to tenor of the will and furthermore my
will and desire is that he be amenable and liable to my executors
for any abuse of the trust, reposed to him.

deceised, one negro girl named Sylvia.

MORTON, Sally (Searcy)
married Colonel William W Searcy who cdame to Rutherford County
Tennessee in 1804. They lived on Jefferson Pike at Walter Hill,
which is near Murfreesboro, Tennessee. They had five children.
