      17. John³ MCCAFFERTY (John², Cormac¹) was born Abt. 1790 in Va or SC, and died 1849 in Daviess Co Indiana. He married Susannah PALMER July 31, 1817 in Daviess Co., IN ⁹.

Notes for John MCCAFFERTY:
John McCafferty was in the War of 1812. He was with the 1 Reg't (Mean's) SC Militia. He enlisted as a private and was with Capt. Samuel Faucett's Co. His military records show that Oct. 31 through December 5, 1814 John joined the company on Oct. 1, 1814 for a term of six (6) months with a pay of eight dollars per month. He was present at Charleston SC on March 3, 1815. He was discharged from service at Charleston on March 7, 1815, with a payroll of thirty three dollars and fifty cents in his pockets.

Estate of JohnCHUMBLY, deceased: Letters of administration granted May 11, 1835 to Thomas MCCAFFERTY, Samuel COMER gave bond of $150 as security. No heirs.

1855 Catherine Palmer McCafferty filed for War of 1812 widows pension, but was denied. She claimed that Thomas of Union County SC, was a substitute for Thomas Scott who was drafted at Spartansburg during the fall of 1814. She stated that Thomas was a private under the command of Captain James Woods. There
were no records of Thomas' service in the war.
