* The Don Doom Family Home Page*

Updated August 10, 2009

I am compiling the descendents of Jacob Doom from a manuscript written by J. Purdy Doom entitled "Jacob Doom of Kentucky and his Descendants". Jacob Doom was born near Hamburg, Germany during the middle of the eighteenth century and migrated to America during the time of the Revolutionary War. A third son Henry Doom, my GG grandfather, was born on the Atlantic Ocean enroute to America. It is thought that Jacob resided in Culpeper County, Virginia, where he met the Heavenhill family whom he joined in their journey through the Shenandoah Valley and Cumberland Gap, and settled near present day Lebanon, Kentucky, on land provided for compensation of services during the Revolutionary War. In Kentucky, he raised a family of twelve. One son Benjamin, remained in Bardstown, Kentucky becoming wealthy and building a number of impressive buildings that can still be visited today. Henry and the rest of the brothers and sisters set out to find a home futher west, floating down the Ohio River in a crudely made houseboat to Smithland, Kentucky. The group entered the Cumberland River and disembarked at the eddy on the river near the town of Kuttawa. Henry Doom became the owner of more than a thousand acres of land located in west Lyon County where he raised a family of ten children. The attached family tree not only shows my lineage through Jacob and Henry Doom, but also the family tree on my mother's side. I would like to eventually compile the family trees for all twelve children of Jacob Doom. This information is being provided so that present day descendants may research their family backgrounds and develop an appreciation for their family heritage.
