"At a general term of the circuit court for the County of Manitou commenced and held at the court house in the village of St. James in said county in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty two on this 27th day of June.
Present, Joseph H. Shere, Circuit Judge
Court was opened for business in due form by the sheriff."

"In the matter of the application of John H. O'Donnell to be naturalized as a citizen of the United States, personally appeared in open court John H. O'Donnell an alien who thereupon petitioned the said court to admit him as a full citizen of the United States according to the naturalization laws thereof, and it satisfactorily appearing to the court now here, by proof duly made that the said John H. O'Donnell has resided in the United States five years and within the State of Michigan for more than one year last past that that said petitioner so resided in the United States for three years prior to the time he became twenty one years of age and two years and more since he became twenty one years of age that during his residence within the United States he has behaved as a man of good moral character attached to the constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same and having in open court made oath that he would support the constitution of the United States and absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure forever all allegiance to any foreign prince, potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever and particularly the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland of whom he was a subject. It is therefore ordered and considered that he be admitted as a citizen of the United States of America and that the proceedings thereof be recorded."
