The latter source indicates that Verney, Sarah and their children resided for a time at Shrewsbury, Vt. Subsequently, they removed to the Holland Purchase, NY. In 1850 Verney resided with his son, George, at Somerset (Niagara Co) NY.

Birth recorded at Glocester, RI. (VRs, p. 64). SG TAF 5 supplies only fragmentary data on the family og Mijamin5 Taft. A submission to the Taft Family Association by Ervin R. Taft (4712 W 162nd St., Lawndale, CA. 90260) provides some additional information. However, there are some inconsistencies between these two sources that cannot be reconciled based on independent records that have thus far been found. It is from Ervin R. Taft's records that the identity of Amy Sprague as Mijamin's wife has been revealed.
In 1790, Mijamin was at Glocester, RI., heading a household with two males 16 and upwards, three males under 16 and one female. He does not appear as a head of household in the 1800 census, but in 1810 is head of household at Burrillville, RI., with one male10-16; one male 16-26; one male over 45; one female under 10; one female 10-16, one female 26-45.

The will of Moses Cooper, 1802 (RI Reg. 7:108), Mary's maternal grandfather, mentions her as Mary Hews, child of daughter, Sarah. Mary and her family are said to have removed to western NY. or Ohio at some time after ca. 1810.

Marriage at Smithfield, RI. (VRs, p. 74), to Margery Mowry (1774-1850). Birth and death (not in VRs). Jesse's will, dated 4 Feb. 1848 (Burrillville Will Book 3, pp. 272-4), mentions his daughter Martha Richardson and the grandchildren of his three children who predeceased him. SG TAF 5 attributes a son, Samuel, to him, but this seems unlikely.
SG TAF 5 attributes a son, Samuel, b. ca. 1792, who married "a dau. of Welcome Ballou" to Jesse5 Taft (Nathan4, Mijamin3....) and to this Samuel, children Jesse, Smith and Mary Ellen. These conclusions would seem to have been based on an uncritical interpretation of the will of Jesse5 Taft of Burrillville, RI. (1848, Book 3, pp 272-4) in which he mentions the heirs of Samuel- Jesse, Smith and Mary Ellen. Certain facts cast doubt on the relationships that have been inferred.
