| My father's family is the Dorsey family whose home land is located in Falls County, Texas. I know that some of my ancestors were slaves, and some were sharecroppers. The originators of the Dorsey family came to Texas from Mississippi & Georgia. (according to Census records) Oral family history indicates that the Harrisons in our family were slaves, owned by a cousin of President Harrison. We know, for certain, that Grandma Jane was freed around the age of 12 or 13. Because of family secrets and poor memories, some members of this family are known only by their first names and surnames remain a mystery, others are remembered only by their last names. I am eager to find out more about the previous generations and herein share the information that I have gleaned during the years in which I have been working on this project. The surnames most frequently encountered in these trees are Dorsey, Crane, Harrison, Webster, Irvin, and Merritt on my Father's side, and McDonald, Jones, Scott, and Ferrell on my mother's side. I will be updating this tree as new information is found and as corrections become necessary. |
