Edgar George Self (b. January 06, 1898, d. Abt. 1925)
Notes for Edgar George Self:
Edgar George Self served in the US Army from 10/10/1917 until his honorable discharge at Camp Bowie, Texas 3/10/1919.He served in France at Miheil, No. of Verdune, Boise de Forger, Focet de Argonne.
After returning home, he worked for a time for Southern California Edison Co. Then he returned as far east as Bernalillo Co., where he homesteaded all of Sec. 9, Tnp 21 N., Range 2W.His original filing was Dec. 4, 1922.sometime after 1925 he was again in New Mexico, where he disappeared. It is known that he picked up some money sent to him by his father, Isaac Eli Self, by wire. It is believed he was robbed and murdered at that time.Though detectives were hired by his family, no information was ever gleaned nor was his body ever found. His father filed a claim for his government insurance on presumption of death of the veteran by reason of more than seven years continued and unexplained absence and silence.
Even in his mother Louisa Self's will, she continued to hope for the return of her son.
Sadly, all of Edgar G. Self's records from WW 1 were apparently burned in the storage location at St. Louis, Missouri. That fire occurred July 12, 1973.
