1. ELIJAH¹ MONTGOMERY^1,^2,³ was born Abt. March 10, 1835 in Pennsylvania, and died August 09, 1916 in Barberton, OH. He married MARY JANE LEPLEY August 26, 1855 in Summit Co., OH, daughter of ESTHER LEPLEY. She was born Abt. 1838 in Pennsylvania, and died June 1908 in Ohio.

Notes for ELIJAH MONTGOMERY:
Elijah's death certificate lists his birthdate as 1829 but the tombstone lists it as 1835. Based on census data, the later date is more likely correct. The date on the tombstone for Mary Jane seems unlikely as it would make Mary Jane only 12 at the time of their marriage. Again, the census data seems to indicate her birth at about 1838.

In the 1880 census Elijah and Mary Jane are living in Norton Twp., Summit Co., Ohio. Elijah is listed as a carpenter, age 44 (which would make his birthyear about 1836). Mary Jane is "keeping house" and is age 42. Children at home in this census were Frank, age 22, a coal miner, John, age 14, Charles, age 12, Earl, age 10, Viola, age 8, Bert, age 6, and George, age 5.
