Obituary, Bridget Ann Dougherty, The Independent Review, May 28, 1942
Mrs. Bridget Ann Dougherty died suddenly Tuesday morning at the home of her son, John Dougherty, Jr., with whom and whose family she had lived.
The requiem mass will be held at St. Philip's Church this morning at 9 o'clock and burial will be made in the Forest City Catholic cemetery.
Bridget Ann Dougherty was born June 10, 1855, in New Brunswick, Canada, and came to Minnesota when a young girl, living with her parents at Mendota until her marriage to John Dougherty, Sr., when she became a resident of Harvey, her husband preceded her 26 years ago and also one son Daniel who died in infancy. Had she lived until June 10 she would have been 87 years of age.
Surviving are two daughters, Rose, Mrs. F. E. Putnam of Eden Valley and Mary, Mrs. M. E. McAloon of Litchfield, and two sons, Hugh Dougherty of Butte, Mont., and John Dougherty of Harvey, also a half brother Pat McCarthy of Eden Valley, 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Bridget was the cook at the Atkinson Hotel in Forest City. John drove a suppy wagon from Fort Snelling to Fort Abercrombie in Dakota. Forest City was one of his stops, and thus a friendship was begun which ended in marriage, proving the old adage that "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach."They had six children, one dying at two years of age.
