"[Original information on the Courtwright line, given by Jane Lou White, of Waynesburg, RD 4.

      Thomas Courtwright, b. 1774, d. 4-8-1829, married 1800 to Mary Scott, daughter of John and Catherine Scott. Mary b. 1778, d 5-30-1837. John Scott b. ____, d. 1816.

Two children of Thomas and Mary Courtwright--- Charlotte, married Samuel Vanatta; [This is OK. Charlotte was the second wife of Samuel Vannatta]

James F. married 1. Hannah Rayle, 2. Julia Ann Jacobs, 3. Drusilla _____.]"
      Evidence shows this to be wrong, as the family research I have done draws a different conclusion. Please refer to the section on James F. Courtwright.

      March 21,1831. William Scott, Administrator of Thomas Courtwright, dec'd, appeared in court and presented his administration account which was passed. Balance in the hands of the Administrator.......$239.62 1/2.

      October 15, 1842. William Scott, Administrator of Thomas Courtwright files this receipt of Nancy Courtwright, Jesse Courtwright, Mary Courtwright, Wm. Gess ? in right of his wife, William Courtwright, Thomas Courtwright, for their shares in full respectively in the estate of the said Thomas Courtwright, dec'd, and also filed a statement and receipt of the amount advanced to said heirs in the lifetime of the dec'd.

      The estate of Thomas Courtwright is listed in Greene Co., Pa., Will Book 1, page 355, estate # 624. Estate documents are on file.:

Obituary from the Waynesburg Messenger, Waynesburg, Pa., January 21, 1863, as found in the "Cornerstone Clues", Cornerstone Genealogical Society, Vol XIX, No. 4
November 1994, page 106

      "Died: On Thursday evening last, SAMUEL VANATTA, ESQ., of Richhill Township, in the 71st year of his age. Squire Vanatta was born January 21, 1792 in Washington Co., served during the War of 1812, and moved to Greene Co. in 1826, at Ryerson Station. He was elected Justice of the Peace in 1843, and continued in that office until his death."
