      Obituary                              Phillip Wood

      Phillip Wood died Sunday, June 1, at his home near Higbee, Pa., at about 76 years. He was among Aleppo Township's oldest and most respected citizens, and was a member of a large family, being a brother to our fellow townsman, Joshua Wood. His wife was a Miss Courtwright who died several years ago. He is survived by four children: James W., Mrs. Josephine Hickman, Misses Maude and Olive Wood at home. The deceased was a member of the Christian Church, and an upright man.

The following information was found in the Cornerstone Genealogical Society library, located in the Eva K. Bowlby public library in Waynesburg. It is in a booklet titled, "The Wood Family", with no reference as to the author. There is a name at the top of the Philip Wood section, Wilbur. It may indicate Melva Wilbur, mentioned in the body of the section about Phillip.

Extract:      "      "Philip Wood, second child of John Wood and Sarah Hunt.

      Philip Wood owned the farm where the Wood Burial Ground is located, near Holbrook on Long Run, in Greene Co., Pa.
      Philip was born July 6, 1826, and died May 31, 1902 of consumption. His will is on file in Waynesburg, Pa., Will # 5021, Book 9, page 242. Letters of administration to J. B. Wood and Arch Hickman. The death book says he died at age 75, at Aleppo, after being ill one year. Interrment in Wood Burial Ground. Married Hannah Courtwright, born 1843, died, March 29, 1885."

      "Mrs. Maude Cornwell, 89 years, of Dunn Station, Pa., formerly of near Bristoria, died at 5:30 PM, Thursday, April 20, 1959, in the Beabout Nursing Home of Wolfdale. She was born April 4, 1870 at Long Run, Pa. She was the daughter of Philip and Hannah Courtwright Wood, both deceased. She is the last of her family, two of her sisters and one brother being deceased. She was a member of the Long Run Church of God. She was buried at Prosperity, Pa., beside her husband, John Cornwell."
