36. WILLIAM JASPER4 CHESS (SUSANNAH3 COURTWRIGHT, JAMES F.2, THOMAS1) was born 09 November 1860 in Bristoria, Greene Co., Pa302, and died 10 November 1922 in Washington, Washington Co., Pa302. He married EMMA R. SMITH. She was born 26 March 1866303, and died 12 February 1925303.

      William J. Chess                  (Valley Chapel Cem.)

      William J. Chess, aged 62 years, a lifelong resident of
Greene county, died Friday night, November 10, at the home of
his son Harry Chess, in Washington, Pa. His death was due to
stomach trouble and followed an illness of more than a year.
Mr. Chess was a son of Henry and Susanna Courtwright Chess
and was born at Bristoria on November 9, 1860. He had spent
all his life in Jackson and Richhill townships, following
farming until his last illness. He was a member of the
Methodist Protestant church. His wife, who was formerly Miss
Emma R. Smith, and the following children survive: Daniel
Chess, of Altoona; Lawrence Chess, of Waynesburg; Mrs. Daisy
Lightner, of Washington; Mrs. Louie Kerns and Mrs. Annie
Kinney of Jackson township; Mrs. Mary Kerr, of Kosse, Texas;
Mrs. Ada Poland, of Mt. Morris; Mrs. Margaret Hughes, of
Bluff, and Harry Chess, of Washington. Funeral services were
held in the Valley Chapel Methodist Protestant church,
Jackson township, Sunday afternoon, with Rev. Adam Rush, of
Rogersville, in charge. The interment was in the Valley
Chapel cemetery.

      WAYNESBURG -- Louis M. Campbell, 73, of RD 4, Waynesburg, died at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 1984, in the Greene County Memorial Hospital She had been seriously ill the past three days.
      Born Jan. 24, 1911, she was a daughter of the late George L. and Huldah Burge Kerr.
      She is survived by her husband, Ray L. Campbell, whom she married Jan. 1, 1934.
      She spent her early life in Jackson Township and 30 years in Baltimore before returning to Wayne Township 14 years ago.
      She was a member of the Spraggs United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the Church. She was also Sunday School superintendent and was a member of both the church choir and the Greene County choir.
      In addition to her husband, she is survived by a brother, Dorwin, of RD 4, Waynesburg.
      She was preceded in death by two sisters, Delcie Kerns and Ruby Kerr; and two brothers, Sam and Lloyd.
