I recently married into the Dougherty family and am interested in tracing our family roots. I've found as far back as Pat Dougherty and Ellen Heaney.They met in Lockgelly Scotland in 1906, married in 1909. They had a son named Charles who died and was buried in Lockgelly. They came to America in 1911 via the Cunard line. They landed on Ellis Island, N.Y. where they were detained for a few days. They lived in Boston for about 6 months, then moved to Butte, Montana.They had six children: The deceased Charles, another boy Charles, Francis, Joe, John and Mary Lucille.They bought 45 acres outside of Elma Washington sight unseen and lived in a neighborhood called Swede Hill because there were only 2 or 3 families there that were not Swedes. The family lived there until 1941 when they moved to Springfield Oregon.Pat died in 1953 from a stroke. Ellen died in 1966 from internal conditions and a heart condition. The sons died, John in 1969 from cancer of the stomach. Charles in 1986 from leukemia and Francis in 1994 from colon cancer.My husband, Kevin Joseph Dougherty, is Francis Dougherty's grandson. I would love to get more information about families of the other children that were decendants of Pat. I will share any information (which isn't a lot yet) about the Francis Dougherty line.
