I'm researching the STUMP/STUMPF and LAUFFER families of western Pennsylvania and the BURCK AND LOEPP families of Michigan.
My gggg grandparents were Adam Stumpf and Maria Eisenhauer.
Ggg grandfather Henry Stump (b.1800) m. Mary A. Bridge. Their son, George W. Stump (b. 3/5/1832-d. 6/13/1907)was my gg grandfather. George was married to Susannah Foust who was born in Somerset, PA.

George and Susan had the following children: Joseph Daniel, Mary, Simon, William, George Thomas, Ulyssis James, Henry and Charles Macon Stump. George served in the 11th PA Volunteer Reserves during the Civil War. In 1907, his sons, Simon and William lived in Braddock, PA, his daughter Mary Stump Staymates lived in Avonmore, PA, son Joseph Daniel Stump lived in Johnstown, PA and son Harry H. Stump lived in Cleveland, Ohio.

William F. Stump (b.10/1862 d.11-17-1930), my g grandfather married Mary Isabella Miller known as Belle or Bella (b.November 1865-d.1922). William and Belle lived in Braddock, Allegheny County, PA and had two sons, William Charles Stump(b.6/1886)and Walter H. Stump(b.1/1890-d.9/27/1948).

Mary Isabella had two brothers, George S. Miller and David H. Miller who were living in Johnstown, Cambria Co., PA in 1922 when she died in 1922. Census records show another brother, Jno (John)Miller, living with her and William F. Stump in 1900 and earlier records show a brother, Charles Miller, who must have died young. Census records also show her father Hugh Miller and his wife Susan Sons Miller living in Franklin Borough, Cambria Co., PA.

Walter H. Stump married Mabel Beatrice Lauffer
(b.9/1896-d.9/24/1959)and they had two sons, Walter Francis Stump, my father, (b.3/25/1915-d.5/1963)and George David Stump (b.6/16/1918-d.8/3/1994).

Mabel Lauffer descended from Valentine Lauffer who, with his father, emigrated from Germany in 1831. They lived in Poplar Run, Blair County, PA. The Lauffers were Brethren and I have a great deal of information about them that I will share.

I've also found an 1828 letter in the family Bible written by Jacob Hiles to William McMillin in Canonsburg, Washington County, PA and an empty envelope addressed to a Mr. Matthew T. Kirk in Curlsville, Clarion County, PA probably about 1860-1870, that may have contained military pay. I don't know who these folks were but I suspect that they are ancestors.

The family Bible has been very helpful in keeping me focused on the correct Stump family. Although some ancestor removed the birth pages generations ago, the single page of deaths from 1890 - 1922 has been extremely helpful.

If any of this looks familiar to any Stumps or Lauffers out there or if you happen to have some loose Bible pages with Stump births, I'd love to hear from you.

On mom's side of the family, George Adam Burck and Maria Barbara Taubenreuther came to America from Bavaria in 1846 and were married in New York City where they resided for a few months before comming west to Monroe, Michigan in 1847. A wonderful lady from their church has done a great job of researching my family for me and I now have a great deal of information on the family. I'd like to hear from other Burcks who might be connected.

The Loepp family has been difficult to research. From what I've pieced together, they were German Mennonites who settled in the Danzig District of what was Russia - now Gdansk, Poland. They came to Michigan in 1892. I can find many Loepps on the Mennonite lists but haven't been able to find this family, yet.
As I get new information, I'll put it up.
