| Foreword Just like our family, this genealogy remains a work in progress. What you see here represents more than a year of diligent effort on the part of several people, particularly Ann Dowd. Tireless, relentless, inspired and inspiring, she has traversed the Internet between Ireland and the USA, Worcester and Bangor. She has walked through graveyards and waded through bureaucracies and newspaper libraries alike. She has done all this in the quest to make us all more aware of who we are by documenting from whence we came. Others contributed greatly, notably Carolanne McDonald from her computer perch in sunny Florida, providing guidance and inspiration with her impressive compilation of the Geoghegan/Nelligan history. Stephanie Dowd's photo compilations and words were invaluable, as were the countless anecdotes and facts contributed by Jim and Shaun Dowd and Patty Kelley. Thanks to all. As you peruse the names, words and faces of our ancestors and relatives dating back to the Emerald Isle of the early 1800s, you will find gaps. Records remain to be found. Stories remain to be told. Branches of the family tree remain to be explored. Some of the dates may be off, the result of faded memories and lack of documentation. Ann and I intend to continue the work in the coming millennium. We ask your help in making this the most complete and accurate history possible. Write us. Call us. E-mail us.
