Researching any DOWLINGs from County Leix in Ireland (formerly Queen's County also called Laoighis or Laois). My family came from Dysartbeagh which is just outside Mountrath. I would also be very interested in a correspondent in Mountrath itself. Last confirmed relative is Thomas DOWLING who married Bridget PHELAN on 9th November 1875. He died, aged 66 years, on 7th March 1910 in Knockacoller taking a cow to a bull. They had seven children: Edward, Daniel Joseph, John Christopher, Julia May, Elizabeth (Lily), Thomas Francis and Michael. Daniel, my Grand-father was a shopkeeper in Mountrath married to Mary BURKE. However, I have now much evidence to believe that Thomas' father was Edward Dowling (Doolan) who married Judith Hogan around the late 1830's. I have made an extensive search of Mountrath Parish Records and listed all Dowlings that I have found (and that I could read!). I have also thousands of Dowlings transcribed from early Civil Records (births, marriages and deaths) So if you're connected with Dowlings in Leix send me an E-Mail. If you're just interested in Dowlings send me an e-mail. Your information may elliminate a false trail or even link-up. VISIT my other site: www.dowlingfamily.info |
