DOWNS FAMILIES OF DELAWARE 1700, OHIO 1800, INDIANA 1900Updated January 19, 2009 | |
| The progenitor, at this time, of this DOWNS family is William. The time is March 1, 1729; he is granted 209 acres in Mispillion Hundred, Kent County, Delaware. He died there in 1770. His son Benjamin was born there, and died there in 1816. He and his wife Nancy OWENS had five children. In about 1800 Benjamin's son Curtis left for Ohio where he married Ann HALL. They had eleven children (10 sons) five of which in about 1840 left Holmes County, Ohio and went to Jennings County,Indiana. There are over 2000 descendants in the database from about every area of the United States. Every two years there is a DOWNS/HALL Reunion in Holmes County,Ohio where Curtis and his wife, ANN are buried along with children and grandchildren in the family cemetery near Mt. Hope.
