Mathew Brown and Hannah Okey were both natives of Ohio and remained there until 1866. At that time, they moved to southwest Polk County, Missouri and in 1869 came to Fulton County, Arkansas, and bought a farm for $2,000.00 in what is now called Vidette, Arkansas. This farm was sold to his son, Stephen, three years later and he bought a different farm on the Big North Fork on the White River in Baxter County, Arkansas (it was where Mountain Home now stands). Nine children were born to this couple with eight living to adulthood

She was born June 27, 1832 in Monroe County, Ohio, and died December 3, 1918 in Stafford, Monroe County, Ohio.

Notes for Edward Okey:
On Board of Directors of Monroe County Agricultural Society in 1895. Operated mill a half mile east of Swazey which was built by his father in 1838. Both flour and sawmill.
In 1873 elected County Commissioner of finance for Monroe County, Ohio.
1870 - occupation is farmer.

Notes for Catherine Brister:
Mrs. Kathryn Okey, aged 86 years, a highly respected lady passed away Tuesday, December 3. She leaves to mourn the loss of a good mother, three sons, James, Miles and Frank and a grandson Fred of the home, three daughters, Mrs. W. H. Ullman, Mrs. H. F. Seebaugh, and Mrs. J. L. Mason of Lowell. The funeral was held at the home by Prof. J. A. Hines of Woodsfield; interment in Stafford Cemetery. Mr. John Brister of Burkhart is a brother and Mrs. Jane Okey of Boone, Iowa, is a sister of the deceased.

In 1880 he is living in Grant, Ritchie County, West Virginia next door to son, Monroe and down the road from daughter, Caroline Jamieson.

Obit for Malissa Hunt Okey dated July 7 1910.
The deceased was born in Belmont County, Ohio in 1835, came to Stafford in early childhood, and had lived here 70 years. She was married to Gard Okey, July 4, 1852.
To the union five children were born. One daughter, Mrs. Alcena Holland, died 21 years ago. There remains to mourn their irreparable loss two sons -- George of Chandlersville and R. B. of Stafford; two daughters Mrs John Clift of Marr and Miss Jennie of the home.

42. Thompson4 Okey (Woodman3, Leven2, Thomas1)116 was born 1830 in Monroe County, Ohio117, and died Aft. 1894. He married (1) Caroline Hunt, daughter of Amor Hunt and Amy Wilson. She was born Bef. 1832. He married (2) <Unnamed>.

Notes for Thompson Okey:
Lured West by stories of easy money during the California gold Rush. He arrived in Nevada County, California in 1852. He became a sport gambler.
The Nevada County Directory, 1871-2 has an entry for Thompson Okey, a miner who lives in Nevada City. The Great Register for 1867 gives his age as of May 6 of that year as 34 and at that time he is listed as a resident of Grass Valley. In a later volume for October 26, 1878 his age is 44 and he is a resident of North Bloomfield. All three of these towns were prominent mining towns and are located near each other.
Thompson gave a deposition on 7 Sep 1894 to E. G. Hirsch a Special Examiner for the Pension Office regarding an application concerning his brother George. He was living in Nevada City, Nevada County, California. He stated he was sixty years old with no regular occupation.
