Notes for KATHRYN D. OKEY:
Mrs. Kathryn Keller, 93, died in Richmond, Va. June 9 after a long illness. Her parents were John Okey and Mary Ann Leisure Okey. Her father held several Monroe County, Ohio Offices in the early 1900's. Two brothers predeceased her;
Edward "Ned" Okey and James Okey. The only child of the three -- Robert, Edward's son, was a navy flier killed in WWII.
Her ancestor, Levin Okey, came from Sussex County, Delaware to southeastern Ohio in 1800 with his wife, his mother and eight children.
Mrs Keller lived in Richmond for many years with her husband, Reinhard "Kel", a regional salesman for the Parker Pen Company. She traveled with him throughout Virginia and the Carolinas, collecting early American antiques at a time when these were not yet fashionable. She was a well-known local authority on the subject as well as an accomplished painter of period tole trays and other antiques.
Surviving are many cousins including Mrs. Louise Decker Gadea of Lawrenceville, NJ, a sister-in-law, Mrs. James (Nelle) Okey; and several nieces and nephews on her husbands side. Brief services were held Monday at the Bliley Funeral Home, 3rd and Marshall Street, Richmond, followed by burial in a Richmond Cemetery.
