I am researching the history of the Downie family that originated in Fife, Scotland. I have traced my lineage back to the family of David Downie/Janet Greig ca. 1728-29. In addition, I am trying to trace my mother's maiden name DUNN and her mother's maiden name of WINFIELD. My grandfather, John Edward Dunn, b: 1784 in County Cork, Ireland, was a teenage runaway, becoming a ship's cabin boy before being shipwrecked and rescued off of the New York coast line a few years later. After the Civil War, he settled in Currituck Township, Hyde County, North Carolina. I have not been able to find his ancestry in Ireland. |
