The plaque below the sword says, "This sword was used by Captain John Ashbaugh at the Battle of Shiloh. Under his command was Pvt. Henry Clay Ashbaugh, father of Frederick Newton Ashbaugh, who was the father of John Henry Ashbaugh, Sr., the father of John Henry Ashbaugh, Jr., the father of Michael Ashbaugh, Eau Claire, WI. This sword is given to Michael by his Aunt Florence Ashbaugh Stivers."
