Notes for RICHARD HALL:
By Sarahjane Doyle Nelson Swatstad, 1999
Richard Hall was born about 1729. From "A History of the New River Settlements" by David Johnson, it is believed he came from New York to early Botetourt Co., Va. As the country grew county lines changed, where someone lived remained the same, and the name of the county changed. It is believed Richard came to South Branch and North Fork of Botetourt County by Stouble's Creek around 1752-1753.
When General Braddock was defeated on the Ohio, July 1755, the whole frontier of Western Virginia was thrown open to the ravages of the Indians. Richard Hall is listed on page 24 in 1756 as living about 30 miles from Fort Prince George.
His son David was born 1754 and when the Revolutionary War was fought between Great Britain and the Colonies, 1775-1783, he was an infantry Corporal in Capt. Epp's and Capt. Bufford's divisions from 1779-1781. , " A Valley and It's People", By Roderick Lucas.
Asa Hall Sr., and Jesse Hall came to the Roanoke Vally about 1790, near what is now Shawsville, near Christiansburg, Va. which is about 20-30 miles from what is now Pearisburg, Va, were Richard Hall and his son David lived.
