The Lazarus Drake Family

Lazarus Drake was born in Virginia in 1715. In 1744, he married Sarah Hines who was born in 1720 in Surry County, VA. She was the daughter of William Hines, a prominent land owner. They had eight children, and the fourth child was David Drake, born in 1752. After the death of William Hines, David moved with the entire Lazarus Drake family to Edgecomb County, NC. He married Joanna Greene about 1790 in Edgecomb County, and had several children there, including Rebecca Drake Pittard and Joanna Drake Satterfield. The David Drake family moved to Orange County, NC about 1800. In 1809, James Madison Drake the youngest child of the David Drake family was born. James married Jane Susan Childress in 1828 and they settled in Nash County, NC to start their family. They later moved to Lee County, VA, and finally to Blount County, TN. William Hines Drake was the oldest son of James M. Drake, and was my great grandfather.
