Brig. General Michael Vincent Sheridan (b. May 24, 1840, d. February 21, 1918)
Notes for Michael Vincent Sheridan:
"Uncle Mike" (per Nellie) entered the military on July 1, 1862, serving as an aide to his brother.He was with Phil Sheridan at every battle during the Civil War.He was honorably discharged on August 1, 1866, and breveted (honorary rank) as a Brigadier General.He received an appointment as second lieutenant of the 5th Cavalry in 1866, then as captain of the 7th Cavalry .In July, 1867 he was appointed as an aide to Phil Sheridan, and served him until Phil's death in 1888, during that time rising in rank to colonel.Upon Phil's death he was re-assigned as a lieutenant colonel.During the Spanish American War, he was elevated to Brigadier General of Volunteers and then to brigadier general in the regular army at his retirement in 1902.He is buried in the family plot at Arlington National Cemetery.
