Researching the Drechsler family, who emigrated from Lerbach in Saxony, to Adelaide, South Australia in 1849. I am particularly interested in the European roots of the family, who mainly came from the Harz Region. Whilst I have a considerable amount of information on this branch of my family post-immigration, I am finding it fairly difficult to get information pre-1800. Lerbach is a small village near Osterode south of Hanover. The family was part of a major emigration to Australia of German speaking people in the mid-1800s. There are few Drechsler families in Australia, and from what I have ascertained, most people have a common ancestor - Johann Heinrich August Friedrich Drechsler, who was born in Lerbach on 2 November 1804. I am interested in hearing from researchers who are interested in this part of Germany during the first half of the nineteenth century, and particularly those who have a connection with the surnames listed below. Key surnames: Drechsler, Sauerbrey, Rosenberg, and Fuchs. |
