In the northern part of Ireland in Tyrone County, Province of Ulster near
Omag, there was a settlement of people from Scotland. In a Catholic
upraising in 1790, many of them came to America where they could be
free to worship as they pleased.

Among this number were William and Mary Anderson Porter who came
from Omagh, Ireland in the summer of 1790 and settled in Columbia
Township, Hamilton, Ohio.

Below is a copy of the letter given by the church at Omah, Ireland and
brought by William & Mary (Anderson) Porter to America. The Original
letter is now in the possession of a Great-granddaughter, Mrs. Lucille
(McKnight) Bowmer

"That William Porter and Mary Anderson Porter, his wife were born in
this congreation and always maintained a good moral charactor and hath
received the sacrament of the Lords super with us and is intending to go
to North America is hereby recomended as a regular member of any
Christian Society where God in his providence may fix therin lot is
certIfIed by me at Omag, May the 23 1790--Hugh Delay, V.D.M."

4.	v.	WILLIAM ANDERSON PORTER, b. January 1800, Hamilton, County, Ohio; d. January 23, 1884, Corydon, Indiana.
