Robert Lytle Porter married Mary or Mollie Barrackman, but had no
children; he enlisted in the Civil war and was doing sentinal duty when
his gun discharged and killed him. When his body was sent home to
Napoleon, Ripley County Indiana and the casket was open, it was the body
of a different person. He was mustered in company F, 68th Indiana
Infantry, Aug 19 1862. He was accidentally wounded and died at
Murfreesboro, Tennessee July 8, 1863 (Terrells Reports, vol VI). He was
born in Butler county Ohio and lived near his sister Elizabeth Porter
Gardner in Napoleon, ripley co. Indiana.
