       2. John2 Freeman* (William1 Freeman ,Sr.***) was born 1695 in Norfolk County, VA, and died April 30, 1776 in Chowan County, North Carolina. He married Tabatha*.

Notes for John Freeman*:
The oldest son of William Freeman. He came with his parents as a young man to Albermarle County, N.C. On August 3, 1733, John purchased 200 acres of land at part of a 300 acre tract of land granted to MICHAEL WARD BY THOMAS HYTER, King et als, CHIEFMAN OF TH CHOWAN INDIANS. reference: Land conveyences, BOOK C, #1, NORTH CAROLINA.

In 1737, John inherited a plantation from his father, william Freeman, on which John was living at that time. His father's will reads as follows: " TO MY SON, JOHN FREEMAN..THE PLANTATION WHEREON HE NOW LIVES AND ALSO MY NEGRO WOMAN CALLED ROSE, AFTER THE CHANGE OF MY WELL BELOVED WIFE MARY FREEMAN'S CONDITION EITHER BY DEATH OR MARRIAGE, WHICH SHALL HAPPEN FIRST."

On August 6, 1737, John and his wife Tabitha deeded 100 acres of land on the West side of Catherine Creek Swamp to his brother THOMAS FREEMAN. John Freeman and Humphrey Hardy were Bond Sureties for ALEXANDER FOARD when he exhibited his commission from GOVERNOR WILLIAM TRYON, as Register of Bertie County and was Qualified. John later removed to his property at Poly Bridge Swamp, part of old CHOWAN TOWN, and lived the remainder of his life on this plantation.

+ 16 ix.   William Freeman, born 1716 in Albermarle County, North Carolina; died May 1802 in Surry County, North Carolina.
       4. Samuel2 Freeman (William1) was born 1720, and died May 1796 in Surry County, N.C.. He married Elizabeth Alexander.

Notes for Samuel Freeman:
(Son of William Sr.) Samuel's wife, Elizabeth Alexander of Mecklenburg County, was a sister to a signer of the MECKLENBURG DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE ON MAY 20, 1774. Samuel Inherited 320 acres of land from his fater William Sr., which was located in Bertie Precinct of Chowan County, N.C. in 1736. He also purchased land from John Freeman in Bertie County in 1747. He later moved to Surry County and remained there until his death. His will was probated in Surry County, N.C. in May, 1796.

       5. William(2nd)2 Freeman , Jr. (William1) was born 1696, and died April 17, 1781 in Gates County, N.C.. He married Christian Outlaw.

Notes for William(2nd) Freeman , Jr.:
(Son of William Freeman) He purchased land in Bertie County in 1741 and inherited a plantation from his father in 1737. His father's will states: TO MY SON, WILLIAM FREEMAN...THE PLANTATION AND LAND WHEREON HE NOW LIVES AND A NEGRO MAN NAMED ANDREW TO BE DELIVERED TO HIM AT MY WIFES DEATH OR MARRIAGE.

His will was probated August 1781. William and Christian Freeman had eleven children.

In 1700 William bought 50 acres in newly formed Gates County from George Outlaw. REFERENCE, GATES COUNTY, N.C. DB A:50

William wrote his will on 17 April 1781, proved in August Court of that year. Witnessed by LEMUEL TAYLOR, NATHANIEL TAYLOR AND CHRISTIAN OUTLAW. REFERENCE: GATES COUNTY, N.C. WB 1:20

+ 27 v.   William(3rd) Freeman, died September 30, 1781 in Bertie County, N.C..

  28 vi.   Susannah Freeman(Spruell). She married Spruell.
       7. Richard2 Freeman (William1) was born 1703, and died July 13, 1761. He married Ruth Feldon.

Notes for Richard Freeman:
Land deeds of Bertie County show where Richard purchased land there in 1752. His will was probated in the July term, 1761.
