THE PERTH EXPOSITOR NEWSPAPER

Perth, Drummond Twp., Lanark Co., Ontario, Canada

Below are some of the BMD’s, and miscellaneous Newspaper Items I have come across while researching my family tree.  Some items were difficult to read, even with a magnifying glass, so I have added a “( )” or “?” around the letter, word or date that I am unsure of and have added what I think it looks like.  If you see in brackets (rest was cut off) that just means, that when I was copying the page, I didn’t copy the whole thing, and cut off that particular item.  You will have to check the microfilm, for the remainder of the information.  I have highlighted the families (the ones that I know of), which are connected to ours by using Bold Type.  Good luck in your search.

DEATHS…

HARTNEY                             MR. PATRICK HARTNEY - A life-long resident of Perth and a well-known and highly respeted nonagenarian passed away on Sunday last in the person of Mr. Patrick Hartney.  Ninety-one years ago the late Mr. Hartney was born in Limerick County, Ireland, and when a young man of twenty he left the Emerald Isle and crossed the seas to make his home in the new land.  Coming almost directly to Perth, Mr. Hartney has lived through the development of this town from a comparatively small village to a thriving and industrious town.  In this development Mr. Hartney had his share, and it is with sincere regret that the Expositor is now called upon to chronicle the death of another of this country's rugged pioneers to whom the present generation owes so much.  The late Mr. Hartney was a quiet man but was a gentleman in every sense of the word.  Mrs. Hartney, whose maiden name was Margaret Hogan, predeceased her husband twelve years ago.  There are surviving one daughter, Miss Anne Hartney of town, an only son, James, having died some four years ago.  The funeral took place on Tuesday morning from the family home on Grant Street to St. John's Church and Cemetery, Rev. Dean Hogan singing Requiem Mass.  The pall-bearers were Messrs. John Russell, M. McCarthy, M. McGlade, John Hartney, Jas. Publow and James Kane.  Among those attending the funeral were Mr. Lloyd Hartney, of Toronto, grandson of deceased, and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hogan of Smiths Falls.  (1 Mar 1923)

HARTNEY                             HARTNEY, PATRICK - At Perth, on Sunday Feb. 25th, Mr. Patrick Hartney, aged 91 years. (1 Mar 1923)

HOGAN                                 A SUDDEN CALL - Mr. James Hogan, of Smiths Falls was taken ill last Sunday morning at 5 o'clock and at 6 o'clock he was a corpse.  For some time deceased has been a sufferer from heart trouble, and was aware that his death might come very suddenly.  He was well known in Perth having resided here for many years, following the occupation cooper.  He leaves behind him only warm friends who were pained to hear of his untimely death.  He leaves a grown-up family to whom much sympathy is extended.  The funeral took place on Tuesday to St. Francis de Sales Church, Smiths Falls, thence to the R.C. cemetery, Perth.  (12 Sep 1901)
