Notes for
>ANNA MARIA CONLIN:
She was known as Mariah to her family and friends and was rememberedas having blond hair. The only other one in the family to have blondhair was her son, James Francis. The rest of her children hadanywhere from dark brown hair to red hair.
(CHECK FUNERAL HOME RECORDS)
Maria is buried in the North end of the cemetery by the fence near theroad. She is buried in the family plot along with her children John,Francis and Sarah Ann. In the middle of the plot is a large redgranite monument with a large cross in the center of it, with the nameDROUGHAN engraved on it. Placed in front of the headstone is a markerin the shape of a maple leaf which says VETERAN. It is surrounded bysmall gray foot stones, with just the names on them, no dates. AnneMarie's foot stone is a plain grey stone with a cross at the verybottom of it. The wording on the tombstone is as follows...

ANNE MARIE

MAY HER SOUL REST IN PEACE

The baptismal record reads...

"BAPTISM - 27 Feb 1854, baptised by me the undersigned pastor, AnnaMaria born 26 December ultimo daughter of Patrick Conlin and ElizabethConlan. The sponsors were Patrick O'Donnell and Maria Ann Gall.Signed by J. Smith, Priest."

She was still living there on 17 Jan 1918 when her son James enlistedinto the military.
After the tragic death of her husband, Maria went to live with herbrothers, Martin and Thomas Conlin who had owned some farm land inSmith's Falls (though probably closer to Montague, I would image theirfather's homestead, because they later moved to Smiths Falls once thefarm was sold). Her daughter, Sarah Ann recalled that the farm inwhich they lived on, was partially donated to the church (St. Francisde Sales?) for part of their cemetery, (which is apparently the olderpart of the cemetery on the Ottawa side, though I could find no recordof it in the St. Francis de Sales Church registry book).

Maria was known to have a wonderful sense of humour and was alwaystelling a good joke, or saying something funny.
