She had beautiful red hair and was a very nice girl to know. Suziewas also a very good singer, and had won an award for her singing.
Suzie was on her way back to Scotland for a baby christening, at thetime of her death. Her brother Francis, had just had a baby girl whohe had named after his sister Susan, and she was to be godmother tothe child, but tragically, she never made it back home. Suzie diedwhen the ship she was travelling on, (the Lusitania), was torpedoed bya German U-boat on 7 May 1915 at 2:15 p.m., 10 - 12 miles off the OldHead of Kinsale, the southern coast of Ireland. The ship sank in 20mins. With 1,959 passanger's on board, 1,198 lost their lives. Theremains of the recovered passangers were laid to rest in the OldChurch Cemetery in Cobh, Co. Cork, Ireland. Only 169 bodies wererecovered and identified and 45 were unidentified.
Suzie was a very good seamstress and won the Queen's award for herexceptional skills in sewing. She had travelled to Australia beforeWW1 to work as a dressmaker in Melbourne, where she met a young manwhom she either married or was about to marry. Tragically, he waskilled in a horse and buggy accident.
