Notes for CHRETIEN DUBOIS:
The first records we have on the family originate in Lille, France with the Wicres Parish baptismal records. Chretien wife's name does not appear in these records. However, speculation has it that her name was Cornelia (not proven).

Research into Chretien's parentage has been conducted for over 150 years, One avenue of research contends that he is descended fromn Wallerand DuBois (son of Antoine DuBois and Phillipot DeLandas) who married Madelein De Croix. This research, based on land holdings and titles has yet to be completely proven.

The family originated in France, with Francoise and Jacques settling in Leyden, Holland and Louis in Mannheim, Germany before coming to America. Louis emigrated in 1661 and obtained a land grant in 1663 to settle in Hurley, along with his father-in-law Antoine Crispell. On a mission to retrieve his wife Catherine, who had been kidnapped by Indians, he discovered the area that is New Paltz. Later he returned to settle the area. In 1691, he returned to Kingston and died there in 1696. Francoise emigrated in 1661, settling in Staten Island. Jacques emigrated in 1675, settling in Esopus, where he died a year later.
