From Mrs. Gehringer of Quakertown John Ludwig Bilger was born in Wittenberg, Saxony 1730-31 in what was the city that gave birth to the reformation by Martin Luther. He was one of the farmers that Wm. Penn sent for to settle in Pennslyvania. He worked off a 6 year indenture with a Mr. Funk, whose step daughter he married and lived on Hight Street now Market in Philadelphia. She died sometime after, either before or just after he moved to Franconia Township area, as he then married Mary Magdalena Kuntzert. His three sons Herny Ludwig, -------- Ludwig, and George Ludwig. All served in Rev. War. George helped to transfer Hessian prisoners to Lancaster.
