Thursday, June 11, 1998 Hello from Colorado……………after a long, long time!
I'm sorry it's been so long since I've updated this page. Gloria and I just have done almost nothing except work and rest since Christmas. Haven't even gone to an Eastern Star meeting or seen any of our friends who live her.
Gloria's lupus just saps her strength. About all she can do during the week is work; after work, she just comes home and goes to bed. We don't do much more on weekends. There's always food shopping and catch-up errands, but that's about all.
I gave at a conference in northern Colorado in March. I involved everybody in my office in the presentation so they could list it on future resumes. Gloria went to the conference with us. She also went to a one-day conference with me in Denver in May.
I have been working pretty heavily since Christmas. In addition to my day job, I still teach for the University of Phoenix at night. Right now, I've got three identical ten-week statistics classes going: Monday night in Pueblo (60 miles south of Colorado Springs), Tuesday night in Colorado Springs and Saturday mornings in Lamar (190 miles southeast of Colorado Springs). For the Lamar class, I drive down after work on Friday night, stay in a motel the university pays for, teach my class from 8 am to noon, then drive home, arriving back around 4 pm. All in all, I'm gone from home to work or on the road a little more than 80 hours a week.
Lisa has finished teaching for the year, took a few days to vacation with some friends, then is flying here tomorrow for about five weeks. Her "friend" John is coming for the Fourth of July weekend, as are Todd and his Julie. Our neighbors, the Barton's, skipped the Fourth of July extravaganza last year when they retraced the Mormon trek from Nauvoo, Illinois, to Utah. But, this year, the Fourth of July party will be bigger than ever. We're all looking forward to it.
Denise will be returning to Georgia with Lisa for a visit with her, also about five weeks. Gloria and I will be lonely. That'll take her through the summer and she'll be ready to start her junior year in college in Pueblo. She goes to the University of Southern Colorado. Her roommate last year, from Hawaii, and she decided to room together in the dorm again next year.
Speaking of Hawaii, our friends the Merideth's who live in Hawaii, stopped by for about 18 hours last week. They were on their way to his 30-year reunion at the Air Force Academy, then up to Cheyenne Wyoming to visit his family. We were happy to have even those few hours with them. We had a couple of great years together in Korea. Just as they were leaving, we had to take our old dog, Kaygogi, to the vet's to be put to sleep. He no longer could stand up, eat or drink.
I guess that's all the news. See, I told you we hadn't done much in the last six months.
