James Morgan Truitt, had already began ministerial studies and had done some preaching when his brother and half-brother were killed in Hood Co. in 1874. His testimony helped to convict the Mitchell's at the time of the trial. After that, he did more studying and moved around Texas preaching in various Churches. Rev. James M. Truitt, was a Methodist preacher from 1873 until his death in 1886. His name can be found in the minutes of the Northwest and East Texas conference records in the Library of the School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Tx.
