The Bleazards and Dugdales of Bolton by Bowland

During the 19th. century the highest concentration of 'Dugdale' and 'Bleazard (or Blezard)' families in England were to be found in the Ribble Valley. As most of these families had connections with farming their lives were centred round the villages near to Clitheroe in Lancashire.

My branch of the 'Dugdale' family can be traced back to the 'Newchurch in Pendle' area of Lancashire in the 18th. century. During the 19th. century they moved to near Gisburn and then to the hamlet of Holden, about one mile away from the village of 'Bolton by Bowland'.

The Bleazard family can be traced back to about 1600 when a 'Richard Bleazard' is recorded as living at Slaidburn in the adjacent Hodder Valley. During the 19th. century there were at least three Bleazard families living in the Bolton by Bowland area, who would have to look back 150 or more years to find the ancestors they had in common.

The site also contains information of the 'Cook' family of Tosside and the 'Swaits' branch that moved to Heysham, near Lancaster. Other families include the 'Fells' of Giggleswick, the 'Wrights' of Cleveland, the 'Joinsons' of Cheshire and the 'Illingworths' of Hartlepool.
