I have been doing research and have discovered that I am a descendant of the John FOXE the Martyrologist. Thomas FOX of Cambridge who was John's grandson, arrived in Massachusetts in 1630 with Governor Winthrop's fleet. The name's spelling was changed to Fox. We have several ministers in the family (John and Jabez), a Revolutionary War Colonel (Jonathon) , Benjamin served during the War of 1812, and several great-great-uncles served with the Michigan 23rd Infantry during the Civil War. The FOX family moved to New York in the 1800's and then came to Michigan through Canada in 1855. The name went all the way down to my maternal great-grandmother. Other family names I'm researching are TURNER, GOLLEY(of the clan GUNN), CLOAKEY, IDALE, McNICHOL, DELANO, EVO, DUKEMAN, DUCHMAN, DUCHMANN, CARMELL, MATHEWS, SOPER, WEBB, COVERT, SAYRE, TYNG, REYNOR, PAPST, BUNKER, WALLACE, BOYCE, BACON, CLEEVES, MITTON, GILBERT, EBAIR (ABARE), LEVASSEUR dit CARMELL, CARTER, HOBBIE, and MAUER. The TURNER branch emigrated to Canada during the mid 1800's. Alonzo TURNER married Della FOX in 1904. They are my maternal great-grandparents. Let's see if we are related. |
