I am researching the DuKatz family. More than 325 names appear in the ' DuKatz Family Book ' published in 1994 and more than 1100 in the WFT submitted in February of 1999. I have not been able to trace the family back to the old country. Any help would be appreciated.
Visit our family web site at http://www.dukatz.com Karl Franz DuKatz was born on the 4th day of April in the year 1840. He was born in the city of Poznan, which was then part of the German Empire. Today Poznan is located in the country of Poland. Karl brought his wife Wilhelmina (Novak), and children ( Mary, August, Friedrick, Wilhelmina Harrietta and Adolphus ) to America on or about the 15th day of December, in the year 1884. The DuKatz and Nikolai families were very close friends while in Germany; therefore, when Karl brought his family to America they migrated to Chaska, Mn. where the Nikolais had previously located. There are strong indications that the daughters of Karl, Mary and Amalia, may have arrived in the United States prior to Karl. Karl DuKatz died at his home in Chaska on Saturday, July 14th, 1888, at the age of 48. He is buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. After Karl's death, Wilhelmina was left alone to care for the children which ranged in age from 5 to 23. Wilhelmina washed clothes to support the children. The older girls did much of the mothering of the younger children. Even after the older children got married the younger oes stayed with them for periods of time. Wilhelmina died on May 11th, 1924 and is buried in Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis, Mn.
