Daniel Dunn, Sr. (b. June 07, 1761, d. March 25, 1822)
Daniel Dunn, Sr. (son of Daniel Dunn and Sarah Fitzrandolph) was born June 07, 1761 in Henrico County, VA, and died March 25, 1822 in Greene County, TN. He married Rhoda Patterson on January 30, 1781 in Albemarle County, VA.
Notes for Daniel Dunn, Sr.: 1. Daniel and Rhoda moved from Virginia to occupy a land grant in what is now known as Greene County, TN. He received 200 acres there, land that was watered by the Watauga River.*
2. During the Revolutionary War, Daniel served with Captain George McCulloch's Company, Virginia Militia, taking part in the first of the battles at what is now Point Pleasant, WVA. For this tour of duty, he was paid the sum of 4 pounds, 6 shillings, two pence, for 55 days of service.**
3. Most of Daniel and Rhoda's children would leave Greene County and move to the hollows and coves of the Smoky Mountains, settling around what is now Townsend, TN. One of the valleys (or "hollows") bears the Dunn family name. Many would later move to Murray County, GA, during the mid-1850's.***
