• 1st "Garden of the God's" Signs in S. Illinois (18 KB)
  My Grandad, Virgil Tarlton, who was raised in this area, decided to put up signs of rock formations. Using the names that hunters had been using for years, he made a sign for everything. When the State made this area into a park, they replaced his signs, using the same names.

  Here is a photo of my grandad, Virgil Tarlton, on the top right of the photo, with his sign hanging crew. His son Uncle John is on the far left next to his friend Kirk who is in the white suit. Don't know who the two in the middle are at this time. Do you?
• Woman Cave Sign - Garden of the Gods, S. Illinois (12 KB)
  Here are my Uncle's, Herb Tarlton and Alvie Duncan putting up the new sign to Woman Cave. I remember as a small boy squeezing in the cave and looking at a rock formation that resembled a woman. For a little boy exciting as well as scary!
• My son Jordan meets "The Coach" (53 KB)
  This is Jordan Duncan taken with Arkansas Basketball Coach Nolan Richardson. The walking stick the Coach is holding was carved by Jordan's dad, B. David Duncan as a commission from Ducks Unlimited as a gift to the Coach for the Razorbacks winning the NCAA Basketball Championship.

  This photo was taken in 1941 at Cave-In-Rock in southern Illinois at it's entrance. The people in it are Charles and Mary (Gibbs)Tarlton, Kate (Womack) Followell, Lawanda Baggett, Virgil Tarlton, Herman Tarlton, Bonnie Tarlton, Betty Tarlton, and the twins, Kay & Ray Tarlton. The picture was probably take by Rachell (Followell) Tarlton, Virgil's wife.

  This is John Noah Followell at the gas station he owned and ran in the 1930's. Notice how the gas pumps have changed over the years.
• P. A. and Mary Francis (Fannie Nall) Duncan (7 KB)
  This picture was taken toward the later years in life. It was published in a book published in the early 1970 by the Spring Valley Social Brethern Church, in Saline County, Illinois. Both are buried in the Spring Valley Cemetery.
