| ! From letter written by M.B. Dunning who in 1945 lived in San Francisco CA to Edgar Dunning of Bennett CO. Theophilus was an English immigrant who went to Salem MA in 1642. Fisherman from Devonshire England. Theophilus Dunning, the immigrant came probably from Devonshire in the South of England and settled at Salem, Mass where lands were granted him in 1642. He is sometimes referred to as "Downing" and called " the fisherman". He had wife Hannah, perhaps Lindell. Salem church records show that he had three children born and baptized there.
