Notes for Rufus Patton Marshall:
Rufus Patton Marshall b: January 9,1839 in Lafayette County, Missouri. He was raised and educated
in Lafayette County. After becoming of age he was engaged in the pharmacy business at Wellington for
a period of two years, since which he was engaged in farming. In May 1861, he enlisted in Capt. Wither's Company, engaged in state service, in which he served for six months. He then went south
and joined Col. Cockrell's regiment. In September of 1862 he was transferred to Gen. Joe Shelby's
brigade. He participated in about fifty engagements in which General's commanded, besides numerous
other skirmishes. He was wounded and taken prisoner twice---the first time he was held at Alton for six
months and then exchanged, and the second time was taken prisoner at Vicksburg and shortly after
paroled at Shreveport June 10, 1865. He was married Sept. 23,1869 to Jane Frances Sanburn of
Lafayette County, Missouri.
